When it comes to dog water safety, there are a few items that can be done to protect your trusty companion from harm.  Many dogs enjoy the water and it is indeed a great place for them to be.  Just be sure that you follow these steps to help avoid potential tragedies. 

 First, If your dog likes to swim, make sure they are wearing a dog life jacket.  These life jackets help the dog to its head up out of the water.  The life jacket helps prevent the dog from going under if they tire from being in the water too long.  Other added benefits of the dog life jacket is for their ability to make your dog visible in the water.  The dog life jacket is generally bright in color which helps you keep an eye on them at all times.  It is easy to spot where your pet is when out in the water.

 Another way to protect your dog from harm when in the water to make sure the dog always has a way to exit the water under their own power before you allow them in.  This applies more to lakes then it does the shallow stream.  If you are in a boat, attach a dog boat ladder so that the dog can safely exit the water when it gets exhausted.
